‘It Was the Perfect Fit:’ Nearly 1,400 Volunteers Give Back to USO-Metro
From new faces to longtime friends, the impact of our nearly 1,400-team volunteer support has been tremendous on the USO centers and programs located throughout the Metropolitan Washington and Baltimore area.
There were more than half a million service instances last year alone and we could not be more appreciative of those who made it possible. We are happy to report our average volunteer rating is 4.9 out of 5.

At the Airports
Dedicated volunteers provide an invaluable service to our military travelers passing through our airports by helping guests with travel delays and dilemmas as well as assisting with daily needs. This volunteer opportunity is ideal for someone who can make a monthly commitment of four to five hours. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to volunteer at USO-Metro airport lounges.
At the Centers
Volunteers staff five USO centers located in military communities at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Fort Belvoir, Naval Support Activity Bethesda, Baltimore MEPS and Fort George G. Meade.
The USO centers offer a wide variety of programs geared toward active duty military and their families. These programs include play groups, holiday programs, spouse groups, job skills workshops, movie nights, bingo, game nights, food assistance and free meals. Permanent volunteers who can commit to two shifts (3-5 hours each) per month are utilized at each location.
At Events
Throughout the year hundreds of special events are planned and executed with the intent of elevating morale, building a sense of community and helping to ease the burdens of a transient military lifestyle.Volunteers are needed throughout the year to help with event set-up, activities and more.
Specialized Volunteers
Are you a photographer, exercise instructor or child caregiver? If you have a special talent that you are willing to share, we can find a place for you! We are always in need of volunteers that can take photographs, serve as exercise instructors, entertain children, present a workshop or act as a translator. Sharing your personal talent can be an ongoing opportunity or a one time commitment.
